Synergy of Garlic and Ketoconazole (nizoral)

on March 4, 2012

I discovered there were a synergetic effect with garlic and ketoconazole. During one month, i took ketoconazole and i had a mild effect. Then, i tried ketoconazole with garlic and i had strong die-off reactions.

Then, i googled “ketoconazole and garlic” synergy and i found a study from Iran stating that Garlic had a synergetic effect with ketoconazole against dermatophytic fungi. The conclusion of this study were similar to what i experienced ed with garlic alone, ketoconazole alone, and garlic with ketoconazole.

Here is the link to the study PDF

Another 2010 study found that active component from garlic (allicin) has a synergetic effect with fluconazole in killing three types of candida strains. (Candida Albicans, Candida Glabrata,Candida tropicalis). No synergetic effects have been seen with the 3 other candida strains. They mention that in vivo tests should be performed for further conclusions.

In my own experience, i found the synergetic effect was stronger with ketoconazole (nizoral) than fluconazole (diflucan).
